Karlson leaves his wife, Elizabeth "Betty" York Ore Karlson sons, John Karlson and wife Cathy of Newtown, Conn., Paul Karlson and wife Carol of Dingman Ferry, Pa. He was a member of Phi Sigma Fraternity, Sigma XI, International Electrical Engineers, Nuclear Instrument Society, Atomic Engineering, PJA, Optical Society of America, Instrument Society of America, Health Physics Society, International Ozone Assoc., American Gem Society, American Nuclear Society, Northwest Inventors Council, Erie Engineers Societyĭr. He authored numerous publications throughout his lifetime. He was named "1984 Inventor of the Year" by both Northwest Inventors Council and the State of PA, was named "1984 Outstanding Member" by Erie Engineering Societies Council and was inducted into the "Hall of Flame". #DR KARLSON FULL#He received an award for developing the full control system of an experimental reactor for the Navy. He sold Pollution Control Industries and started Iconex and Life Support Inc. He started five companies around several of his patents including Precision Research in New York City and Pollution Control Industries in Stamford, Conn. Karlson held over 100 patents in fields of chemistry, physics, medicine, metallurgy and instrumentation. and was Senior Project Manager on the Kiwi Nuclear Engine Project with EG&G Technical Services, Inc. He was the senior designer for the Titan Missile Program with American Machine and Foundry in Greenwich, Conn. two years on the atom bomb test project in Nevada and five years at Barnes Engineering with the Nassau Project where he developed the Horizon Sensor. Karlson spent four years on the Savannah River hydrogen bomb project in South Carolina with DuPont two years on the nuclear sub project with Admiral Rickover working for Combustion Engineering in Hartford, Conn. ![]() He was affiliated with the Atomic Energy Commission during World War II. ![]() He was an associate professor in the Research Dept. He served a fellowship in research and development at Gannon University. In 1977 he earned his doctorate from the University of Pittsburgh and also completed postgraduate work at St. Karlson earned a Bachelor of Science degree in zoology and physics from the University of Pittsburgh in 1946 and a masters in biophysics in 1949. 5, 1920, in Johnkoping, Sweden, son of the late John B.
